Wiltshire charity Alzheimer’s Support is opening a fortnightly group offering gentle exercise to music for people affected by dementia.
The new Movement for the Mind group will meet Tuesday mornings at Rotary Hall, Station Hill, Chippenham, with the first session on September 25.
The Chippenham group will be the charity’s seventh Movement for the Mind in Wiltshire.
Head of Community Services Sarah Marriott said: “We founded Movement for the Mind here in Wiltshire in 2011 because we knew how beneficial gentle exercise was for people living with dementia and for their family carers. Our groups are led by professional fitness coaches or dance practitioners who are trained in dementia awareness. It’s a great way to meet people and have an enjoyable morning out. You do not need to be superfit to take part as everyone joins in at their own pace, and much of the session is chair-based.”
The charity is also looking for volunteers for the new group to provide a friendly welcome, serve refreshments and take part in the session.
