Today, a record number of parks and green spaces collect a Green Flag Award
John Coles Park which is owned and managed by Chippenham Town Council been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world.
John Coles Park is among a record-breaking 1,970 UK parks and green spaces and 131 in thirteen other countries around the world, that will today receive a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
John Coles Park is a beautiful green space in the heart of Chippenham regularly attracting 1,500 people on a sunny, summer weekend.
The park offers a large area of open space and a circular walk through mature trees. It is maintained to its consistent high standard.
The Bandstand hosts a selection of Sunday afternoon concerts which are free to attend. These popular concerts are a firm favourite in the diary and a super reason to make up a picnic and relax with some gentle toe tapping.
Tennis Courts, Bowls Pavilion and a Multi-Use Games Area are also available in the park alongside the SplashPad, refreshment kiosk and large play area.
Councillor Teresa Hutton, Chair of the Amenities, Culture and Leisure committee said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for John Coles Park for the first time.”
