Kingsbury Green Academy is celebrating what could be their most successful performance yet, with the curtain closing on the school’s end of year production of The Addams Family.
The show, which was a sell-out on all four performances, not only wowed the audience but also showcased the collaborative talents of pupils at the school.
Taking to the stage was a cast of 55 pupils who had all auditioned and rehearsed diligently over the past weeks to bring the story of Wednesday Addams, played by Year 7 pupil Martha, falling in love with the sweet and respectable Lucas Beineke, played by fellow Year 7 pupil Krissey.
With two opposite worlds colliding, the audience were taken on a lively comedic performance which also included the best-loved Addams family characters, including Gomez (Year 10 pupil Emily), Morticia (Year 10 pupil Charlotte), Uncle Fester (Year 8 pupil Maddie) and Pugsley (Year 8 pupil Gene).
However, setting this performance apart from other school plays was the role 23 other pupils played as the stage and technical crew. This group of volunteers took responsibility for set design, sound and lighting as well as sourcing and adapting costumes for the entire cast.
Alice Mitchell, Head of Creative Arts at Kingsbury Green Academy, explained: “The production of The Addams Family was truly a whole school performance. We have a very talented group of young people who were all eager to play their part to make this a show to remember, as well as teachers from different departments who gave up their time to make the show a success.
“Each performance was very well received by the audience, who were impressed by the talent and stage presence of all of the cast. “Last year we put on the musical Matilda, which was the first large scale performance since Covid. It’s wonderful that there’s so much enthusiasm for performing arts at Kingsbury Green and that we can harness this to put on performances that rival the professionals.”
