The Malmesbury Concert Band (MCB) entertained a sold out audience in the Town Hall last Saturday with a hugely successful Musicals!! concert.
The audience, all seated at candle-lit tables and creating a night club atmosphere, enjoyed a wide range of numbers from famous musicals, including Chicago, My Fair Lady, The Merry Widow, The Student Prince and March of the Siamese Children from the King & I.
Under the baton of Musical Director Art Robb, the concert also included the foot-tapping Jitterbug, Nine to Five, made famous by Dolly Parton and, for an encore, with audience participation, Do Re Me from the Sound of Music.
The programme also included three other conductors. MCB President and former Director of Music Tony Fleming led The Merry Widow, band chairman Ben Randall-Sly conducted highlights from La La Land, and flautist Sharyn Wilson led the band with Pirates of the Caribbean, a challenging number for the band, but hugely popular with the audience.
Mr Robb said: “We were delighted to be back again in the Town Hall after our triumphant James Bond themed concert last year, and with the response from the audience, from whom we’ve received many compliments.”
