The Malmesbury League of Friends (MLOF) has donated £10,000 towards the cost of a new minibus for Malmesbury Boxing Club.
The new minibus, which cost £21,000, will be used to transport the boxers to events and competitions all over the country. The balance has been raised by the club itself, including fund raising, Go Fund Me and individual donations.
For many years, the club used an old minibus, which was worn out and used large amounts of fuel. So a new minibus was essential if the club was to continue taking part in the all-important competitions and events.
The club, which has around 60 regular members, operates three weekly training sessions, helping the young boxers develop their fitness and self confidence in a friendly and disciplined environment.
Head coach Mike Rees commented: “We are truly grateful for this fantastic donation, without which we simply would not have been able to acquire the minibus, which is absolutely essential if the boxers are going to progress.”
MLOF chairman David Hide said: “We are always keen to help those, particularly young people, to participate in healthy, character-building activities. The boxing club, under Mike’s leadership, does a first class job and fully deserves our support.”
