Two brothers, Aidan and Gregg Bartlett, are embarking on a remarkable journey across the South of England, covering the equivalent of a marathon each day to raise funds for Macmillan, a charity close to their hearts. Their motivation stems from their mother Lesley’s battle with cancer, during which Macmillan provided invaluable support.
Starting from Worthing, Lesley’s birthplace, the brothers will trek to Chippenham, where she lived for 19 years and ultimately lost her battle with cancer. Their goal is to complete this challenging 100 mile-plus journey in just four days, averaging an impressive 26 miles per day.
In her final months, Lesley dedicated her time to organising her affairs, with a focus on minimising the impact on her children; this reflects her selflessness and strength. Despite losing her battle with cancer in 2018, her memory remains a source of inspiration to all who knew her. In her honour, Aidan and Gregg will commence their journey on May 10, finishing on May 13, the anniversary of her birthday.
Their route covers the South Downs in Sussex, the Hampshire countryside, and the vast Salisbury Plain before crossing the Marlborough Downs en route to Chippenham.
