The end of July signalled the release of two new vintages at Maud Heath Vineyard, both of which were nil dosage, meaning the wines required no added sugar since the grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness, with a sufficient balance of acidity.
The ‘Tytherton Red’ is a wine predominantly consisting of Pinot Noir grapes, which has been lightly oaked in barrels for six months. It has aromas of cassis and plum on the nose, with a medium bodied palate, and a soft silky texture accompanied by a lasting finish. This red is the first to be produced by Maud Heath, it is expected to get better with age.
2014 was an incredible year for English wine production, whilst Italy and France struggled to harvest vast amounts of grapes, English vineyards thrived due to a spectacular summer that provided ideal growing conditions for a plentiful harvest.
Maud Heath Vineyard has produced another ‘Bacchus White’, following a popular 2013 vintage. The nose has fresh, tropical fruit aromas, with a crisp, dry palate displaying green apple, and elderflower flavours. The finish is long, elegant, and refreshing.
