June 15th 2019, Cirencester Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, 7.30pm
June 22nd 2019, All Saints’ Church, Christian Malford, 7.30pm
Recently returned from performing in New York’s famous Carnegie Hall, local community choir, The Village Singers are looking ahead to their summer concert season and invite you to join them for their zesty and possibly a little self-indulgent programme, A Little of What You Fancy!
The choir have come a long way since their beginnings in Sutton Benger’s Bell House pub nearly eight years ago. They have now been on two European tours and in January this year 71 members of the choir, along with an entourage of supporters, flew over 3,000 miles to New York City. They joined a 250 strong international choir celebrating Sir Karl Jenkins’ 75th birthday, performing the US Premier of Symphonc Adiemus in the world-class concert hall with the Sir Karl himself in residence.
Not a bad gig for a community choir from North Wiltshire, you might think. The Village Singers’ Musical Director Rachel McCorry puts the choir’s success down to two things,
‘..our courage to push ourselves musically and our ethos to have fun – well we did start in a pub after all!’
This summer you have the chance to experience the choir’s special personality for yourself as the Singers are performing locally in two beautiful churches; the historic and majestic Parish Church of Cirencester and the more intimate All Saints Church in Christian Malford. Having recently performed such weighty works as the Mozart Requiem and Symphonic Adiemus with orchestral accompaniment the choir are excited for a change of scene and the opportunity to demonstrate their versatility. The June concerts are a fresh summer-inspired mash up of folk, pop and Victorian delights– basically a little of what they fancy…
