Celebrity favourite Biddestone cricket seeks players after record 75th year
Biddestone, Wiltshire
Biddestone Cricket Club is delighted to announce it has made a record investment into its facilities following the success of their 75th Anniversary Celebrity Match, which garnered wide support from BBC antiques celebrities and renowned rugby players.
The club is now launching a recruitment drive, seeking new players of all standards to join for the 2025 season. The club has 3 mens teams, a ladies team and a thriving junior section.
Tim Knight, Chairman of Biddestone Cricket Club, said:
“2024 was a record year for us. We’re incredibly grateful for all the grants, donations and support we received, which has allowed us to invest in our facilities and expand our teams. It’s an exciting time for our club and we are now looking for new members to enjoy our improved facilities.”
On the field, the club had plenty to celebrate as their 1st XI team became Champions of the Wiltshire County Cricket Division 1, securing promotion back to the Wiltshire West of England Premier League for the 2025 season.
The club’s record boost was helped by the celebrity cricket match held on July 4th. BBC stars Charlie Ross, Izzy Balmer, Charles Hanson, and Tim Weeks (of Antiques Roadshow and Bargain Hunt) joined the celebrations, raising much-needed funds. Rugby legends, including Matt Banahan, also participated, with Banahan representing the Presidents XI team.
Tim Knight added:
“The support for our anniversary celebrations was heartwarming. It was particularly special to have one of our founding members, Roger Hudson, with us to mark this incredible milestone. We also have to say thank you to our sponsors without whom it would not be possible Stonewood, Hunter French, Hartham Park, Knight Frank, Nuletrics and Marble Works of Bath along with many other local businesses.”
The funds raised are being reinvested to enhance the club’s facilities. Renovations to the second-pitch changing rooms have already been completed, and a refurbishment of the net facilities is planned.
Biddestone Cricket Club is inviting players of all levels to join their thriving community. The club offers three men’s teams, a ladies’ team, and a vibrant junior section.
