Calne Lions are well known for various charity fundraising efforts, like our annual Duck Race and of course our Santa Sleigh, which takes to the streets most nights throughout December. The Lions’ Burger Van is also a regular presence at many events in and around the Town, like Calne Bike Meet, the Christmas Lights Switch On and Calne Pride. For all of these events, we need a vehicle able to tow things like our burger van and support vehicle, the sleigh and trailers to move all our Duck Race equipment.
Until now we have relied upon our members using their own vehicles, but this reliance severely limits who can drive (not all member cars have a tow bar or are up to the job of towing). We have now reached a crisis point, where the towing responsibilities are falling on the same one or two people, which is not sustainable and is starting to affect our ability to do what we do best – raise money to support many worthy causes within the town.
Calne Lions desperately need to purchase a dedicated towing vehicle which will enable more Lions to tow and, in turn, safeguard our ability to run the Duck Race and the Burger Van and escort Santa around the town. We have found a suitable second-hand vehicle, costing £5,500, which we would like to purchase. It is not the newest but is in good condition, will meet all our requirements and will do what we need it to do.
We are reaching out to local businesses to see if you would be prepared to sponsor our new vehicle by making a one-off donation to help us to cover the purchase and running costs of this vehicle. We would also welcome alternative offers of support to assist in the provision of insurance or help with MOTs & servicing.
In recognition of your donation and as a gesture of our gratitude, all sponsors’ will be included in our associated publicity posts on Facebook. Furthermore, sponsors will have their business logos displayed on our new vehicle which, especially around Christmas, is probably one of the most visible and most photographed vehicles in and around Calne!
The size and placement of logos will relate to individual donations; however all sponsor logos will remain on the vehicle for as long as Calne Lions own it.
