Food & River Festival 2024
Focus on the River
The River Team have been working hard in preparation for this year’s Festival which is being held Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September.
The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust will be running boat trips throughout the weekend. Tickets for both days will be on sale from 10am on Saturday 31st August. These trips do get booked very quickly, so book early.
The Trust is pleased to offer the Melksham Carnaval Queen and the royal family a free trip up the river to celebrate their special year.
You can find out more about the work the Trust is doing by visiting their display gazebo in the park. Volunteers will be please to update you on the progress to reinstate the canal.

Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club are focusing on youth this year. The Festival Team are pleased that the Club have expanded their programme to include taster sessions in addition to their normal displays.
The Club’s management committee makes the following offer to children over 8 years old.

Our club offers exciting paddle opportunities for youths of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced paddlers. The club has a range of craft from kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards all the way through to slalom and sprint kayaks.
With experienced coaches and a supportive community, we provide a safe and fun environment to learn and grow. Whether you’re interested in paddling for fun, competitive racing, or just exploring our beautiful waterways, there’s something for everyone. Come paddle with us and be part of our inclusive and welcoming club!
Come and have a go; we’ll be running kayak (am) and paddle board (pm) taster sessions as well as showcasing various paddle sport demonstrations throughout the Food and River Festival celebrations.

On Sunday the Wiltshire Search and Rescue Team will be putting on two displays, showcasing the skills they employ to rescue members of the public who find themselves in difficulty. As always, these displays are subject operational needs. Their display gazebo is on site all weekend.
In addition to the activities on the river, there are 80 stalls on the field, selling beers. Cocktails and a range of international cuisine. Plus, live music and a children’s funfair.
