Peacock WI Corsham smashes target of poppies for their Remembrance Poppy Appeal
Peacock WI Corsham has been at the heart of a remarkable community initiative, inviting everyone to join in knitting and crocheting poppies for a special town-wide display for Remembrance Day to commemorate our service people.
Launched on 31 January 2025, the project set an ambitious target of 10,000 handmade poppies. Through the enthusiasm and creativity of local residents, the response was overwhelming. By 5 April, the goal had already been reached — a true testament to Corsham’s community spirit.
The WI reached out far and wide, involving local schools, businesses, and youth groups including Brownies and Rainbows. Their involvement has added colour and meaning to the project, making it a truly intergenerational effort.
With the original target achieved well ahead of time, Peacock WI is now encouraging everyone to keep those needles and hooks going. Every additional poppy will help cover the town in a powerful visual tribute, showcasing the creativity and care of the people of Corsham and beyond.]
This growing sea of poppies will serve as a moving reminder of our shared respect for those who have served, and a celebration of what can be achieved when a community comes together.
